Woody Talley volunteered with SOIL in 2007 and is now a representative of the organization. Check out this powerful interview complete with the reading of a letter marked “12-22-2009″ from Sasha Kramer, cofounder of the organization.
The project started in 2001 as a series of concerts with a live album release- and included such acts as Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr, Ed O’Brien, Tim Finn, Sebastian Steinberg, Phil Selway, Lisa Germano, and Betchadupa- with all proceeds going to Oxfam. The project reunited in late 2008 for three weeks with an agenda- to record a double disc album- and to play three sold out shows at the Powerstation concert venue in Auckland.

Both Sebastian Steinburg and Lisa Germano were a part of the project and gave us insight regarding writing and preparation for the album, working with other well reknowned musicians on this project, and the interesting and provocative meaning behind the song “Reptile”.
From Old Time music to Piedmont, Mississippi, and Delta blues- on top of having Ms. Nikki Talley as a cohost- we enjoyed a ton of great music, jokes, and a live in studio performance from Ms. Talley as only Diet Riot does in a musical climactic manner.

On December 13, 2009 we had our first “Tribute to the Fiddle” show. Grammy Winner Sara Watkins joined us via telephone and gave incredible insight regarding her early starts as a fiddle player, technique, and following her new path as a solo artist.

Sara began her career as the fiddle player for the progressive bluegrass group Nickel Creek and has recently released her first solo record produced by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. In addition to her solo project she lends back up vocals to several Nashville musicians and is involved with Fiction Family and Works Progress Administration.

Here is our two part interview with Sara.

Tania Elizabeth co-founded the critically acclaimed Grammy winning group, The Duhks, in 2001, has started her own record label in which she released two solo albums, and is currently working on a book to assist touring musicians with living a healthier lifestyle.

Her blog, http://greendux.blogspot.com/, is a great resource for anyone looking to embrace living a sustainable life- specifically in the entertainment industry.

Hear her interview here as she talks about fiddle technique, the start of her recording company, artists who inspire her, and living a healthy lifestyle.
